CARNAVAL

Every year in February in the southern, catholic, parts of the Netherlands, a big carnaval takes place. It’s a colorful and theatrical event, where many people take a week off to party in crazy costumes. Being an immigrant, living in the protestant, northern, part of the Netherlands where there are no carnivals organized, I one year decided to go to Maastricht in the south to experience and photograph the event.

Some time later I was invited to co-curate and participate in a solo exhibition in the Melkweg photo gallery in 2010, where 35 big prints were presented for two months.
